How Leslie Gomez is Redesigning & Reconstructing Women’s Street Wear!

Who is Leslie Gomez? What do you want to be known for in this lifetime?

A young women with a conviction to reconstruct the idea of a tomboy. My rework pieces will be a part of my legacy, being known as the woman who expressed herself to the best of her ability, doing what she could with what she had.

What inspired you to start designing and what continues to inspire you to create and design?

The lack of women's wear in street culture is what prompted me to buy my first machine. Today, my focus is fixated on making all of my ideas tangible while promoting self awareness, unity, & love for all women through dopeness.

Who are some of your favorite designers? (Dead or Alive)

Alexander Wang, Hyein Seo, & Ben Taverniti

Who/What inspires your style?

My style is heavily inspired  by the 90’s baggy urban aesthetic, fused with a modern twist. When it comes to the way my clothes fit me, I prefer space and comfort, that’s when I feel my flyest.

Describe your style in three words!

Comfortable, effortless, & clean.

Are there any companies or creatives you’d want to collab with in the near future? *let’s speak it into existence*

Nike, Vfiles, Ambush, Joy Rich & Ava Nirui, Adidas, Kith.

Favorite women of color to follow on Instagram?

Aleali May, Princess Nokia, Vashtie, Calah Jones

What’s your favorite album out right now & why?

“The Plan” by Danileigh makes me feel empowered, she truly makes me feel like a boss bae, and it motivates me to remain focused on myself. I believe that it is effective to create a playlist on your phone, preferably a number of songs one can be inspired by, trust me it works.

What are your self-care rituals/tips? How do you stay looking so bomb!?

Every morning when I wake up I like to take a few minutes out to stretch and do a few yoga poses to release any tension in my body. I’ve noticed when I am consistent with this routine it helps me not be so stressed. During those few minutes in the morning I am able to clear my mind and realign myself.

What was your 1.11ven moment /a time you realized you could do anything you set out to do?

After leaving a very toxic relationship I realized I had been holding myself back from my truest potential and decided to exercise self-love more. After fully dedicating one hundred percent to my brand for the last two months, there has been so many doors opening for me, and now the light that has already been in me, can shine unapologetically.

If you could give one piece of advice to young girls out there, what would it be?

For every person that hates you there will be ten people that love you, and it will always be that way, it’s an unfortunate imbalance we creatives will have to endure in this life. The flip side is that your true supporters will show themselves and they’ll make you realize that the negativity truly doesn’t matter. I want all the young girls who have a dream, or any type of goal that seems impossible, to know that when the world comes against you, that means you’re seen as a threat, and normally the one you fear is the one you actually believe in. Keep going no matter what, you’ll thank yourself later.

What are some upcoming projects that we can expect to see you flourish in?

I’m currently coming up with a collection for spring/summer, I’m going in a different direction from my usual reworked thrifted pieces, and focusing more on cut and sew. The garments for this line will be one-off pieces, so I advise anyone who follows my work to stay tuned so they don’t miss out!
